Final day Delta Lloyd North Sea Regatta 2010

It was a difficult final day of the Delta Lloyd North Sea Regatta 2010 in The Hague/Netherlands. The light southwest breeze dropped during the fourth day of the inshores along the Scheveningen coast, which made it hard for many classes to beat up the strong current. The ORC and IRC yachts sailed the Fjellstö semi long-distance race, whereby the ORC 2 lined up with the biggest fleet (25). Harry Amsterdam (NED) took that bullet on handicap with his Arcona 340. Lastige, laatste dag Delta Lloyd North Sea Regatta 2010

Continue reading...

She comes all the way from Australia, helmed the Aussie Yngling at the Olympic Games of 2008 in Qingdao and is back in her Laser Radial. Krystal Weir finished seventh in yesterday’s race. “I just came back into it”, she says. “A seventh place is nothing special, but I am learning how to get off the line again. We have a couple of days here and then we continue with the Delta Lloyd Regatta.” Continue reading...

“I used to sail a lot before I started to drive my sons to surf regatta’s”, says Henny Bouman, father of former RS:X World Champion Casper Bouman and Sander, also a windsurfer. “I founded the Coastal Sailing Club The Hague and raced many other boats, but there was no time left for my own activities. Until I came to the Delta Lloyd Regatta in 2008. It was beautiful weather, so I thought it was time to get back to sailing.” Continue reading...

One day to go…

The long period of preparations is coming to an end. An undoubted great sailing event along the Scheveningen coast is awaiting us. The weather forecast looks promising; warmer, sunny and with a good breeze from the north/northwest. Meanwhile, the third harbour is getting ready for its new guests. The organization works hard to guarantee high level facilities in this new harbour. Continue reading...

Happiness and mixed feelings in Scheveningen

The R.O.R.C. North Sea Race turned out to be much quicker than expected at an average wind of 9 knots. At 9:30 AM Dutch Summer Time, the top two runners had already rounded the MSP-mark off the coast of Ijmuiden, north of Amsterdam. The VO 60 Pleomax of skipper Harm Prins was in the lead, followed by the Ker 46 Tonnerre 3 of Piet Vroon. The gap was only twelve minutes on the finish line. Not enough, concluded Prins. “We didn’t sail well”, he said, but we saw happy faces onboard of Tonnerre. And meanwhile, 35 yachts have finished. Continue reading...

20 Yachts have finished North Sea Race

Meanwhile a total of 20 yachts have finished the North Sea Race 2010. The westerly/northwesterly breeze is about 10-12 knots, so the teams are reaching in stead of beating as they did this morning. The sun is bright and the three campaigning Mumm 30’s are having their training session outside the heads of Scheveningen harbour. They are preparing for the Tour de France à la Voile 2010, but their next race will be the Delta Lloyd North Sea Regatta. Continue reading...

Tonnerre is in!

Tonnerre announced 5 NM prior to the finish to cross the line at 10:32 AM and they did it exactly. Qua Guapa is heading to the line in third position and had 1.5 NM left. The first to finish was the Pleomax this morning at 10:20. They took line honours from the Tonnerre early May 15. Two more teams are in sight. Continue reading...

Tonnerre in the lead at Smith Knoll

We just received a phone call from the R.O.R.C. They could tell us that it is most likely that most of the fleet has rounded Smith's Knoll Buoy by now (11:40 PM BST). Tonnerre de Breskens 3, a Kerr 46 of Piet Vroon from the Netherlands, is believed to be in the lead. They reported a rounding time of 10:46 PM British Summer Time. So did the Winsome, but the R.O.R.C. doesn't consider this time as correct, as the Winsome is a much slower yacht. Continue reading...

Continue reading...

With the addition of the Olympic 470 and Laser classes to the Delta Lloyd North Sea Regatta 2010 and the Delta Lloyd 470 Worlds ahead, a new ramp was badly needed. The city of The Hague got the message and replaced the original one by a much wider slipway. Mission accomplished. Continue reading...
